Program

The Troop meets every Monday evening from 7:30 - 9:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale 710 Bloomingdale Ave. East  Valrico, Florida. All Scouts are welcome to attend anytime, new, old and potential Scouts alike.

Scoutmaster Vision
  1. A Challenging and fun program that equips boys with Scout knowledge and skills and supports advancement to Eagle.
  2. A Scout-led troop run by the Patrol Method for all meetings, outings and activities.
  3. A Troop that regularly serves the community in ways that Scouts love and are committed to.
Boy Leadership
Troop 61 is a boy-run troop. Boy leaders plan and execute their own program, with parent and adult leader participation and support. New Scouts begin with small jobs under the guidance of more experienced Scouts. As their skills and knowledge improve, new responsibilities are given to them. Our program offers Scouts the opportunity to enjoy successes while learning how to deal with occassional failure. We have a Road to First Class program which provides the structure to help Scouts to get to the First Class rank.

Learning leadership skills is one of the most important products of being a Boy Scout. Troop 61 has a Junior Leader Training program for the boy leaders. Each Scout will learn the skills needed to carry out his job in the Troop and will learn how to pass those skills on to other boys.

The Patrol Leaders' Council consists of the members of the Leadership Patrol (SPL, ASPL, Troop Instructor, and JASM) and the Patrol Leaders of each patrol. This group meets monthly with the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters to plan Troop meetings and outings.

Monthly Outings
Troop 61 has a year-round outings program, with an outing every month planned by the Scouts themselves. In addition, the Troop or any of the patrols may plan other activities during the year. See our calendar for a taste of the program planned by the Patrol Leaders' Council and the patrols.

The Troop outings program is designed to provide the Scouts with fun, new skills, and advancement. In addition to meeting requirements for advancing in rank, outings provide opportunities for earning merit badges, including Camping, Hiking, Cooking, Backpacking, Pioneering, Orienteering, Wilderness Survival, and many others.

We understand that there is life outside of Scouting and that your son's will be involved in seasonal sports. Our year round program allows Scouts an opportunity to participate in those sports without feeling left out of the Scouting program
